The UK’s busiest driving range, Trafford Golf Centre has invested a further £20,000 to build and complete an exact replica of the most iconic par three hole in the world, the 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass.
The latest addition to the 57-bay driving range and golf academy is a real game changer, following a £30,000 investment earlier this year to bring a dedicated short game practice area, featuring the best Huxley synthetic turf, to the popular TraffordCity golfing attraction. The 137-yard 17th, known as the “Island Green” is one of golf’s most recognisable and difficult holes. Customers can now enjoy true to scale green dimensions and practice the same distance as if playing on the course in Florida.
Director of Golf at Trafford Golf Centre, Pete Styles said: “We value the quality of practice at Trafford Golf Centre and we always strive to offer the best service, balls, mats and targets. Golf fans will have watched The Players Championship and seen the world’s best players dunk it in the water. With the addition of this Island Green replica, customers can try it out for themselves without the flight to America’s south coast.”
Trafford Golf Centre is the biggest golf academy in the north west with nine PGA professionals and features a wealth of services and facilities including: 16 Toptracer bays, 6 target greens spread over 300 yards, Power Tee Automatic Ball machines on 26 bays, licensed Café and Bar serving Starbucks Coffee and a range of food both inside and outside on the range plus the largest American Golf retail store in the north.
Pete continues: “We hope our customers enjoy the range upgrade and we look forward to hosting our ‘nearest the pin’ competitions in the summer months.”
Trafford Golf Centre is also home to Manchester’s most popular 18-hole adventure golf course, Dino Falls Adventure Golf. For more information on Trafford Golf Centre, visit: www.traffordgolfcentre.co.uk

At just three years old, Louie Ockerby-Morris from Failsworth is Trafford Golf Centre’s youngest Academy student and is currently impressing both customers and staff out on the range.
Introduced to the game following a round of adventure golf at Dino Falls Adventure Golf, and encourage by his dad, Steven Morris, Louie first started showing an interest in golf at the age of two after watching the sport on TV. Since then, his love for golf and professional golfer Rickie Fowler has grown, he even has a signed Rickie Fowler cap that he takes great pride in wearing when he practices. Louie has been playing since June 2018 and began his lessons with Trafford Golf Centre professional, Tom Fearon in October 2018.
Louie’s Dad, Steven Morris said: “Whilst walking through the driving range to Dino Falls, Louie was asking to have a go and wouldn’t take no for an answer (even though I thought he was too young at the time). It was there that we met Tom, who very kindly arranged for Louie to have a practice on the range. Louie was immediately hooked, and he has loved every moment since.”
Louie, who uses child friendly Golphin junior clubs, now loves to play golf everywhere from practicing in his bedroom to the park and in his Grandma and Grandad’s garden. There has been a positive boost in his confidence since embarking on golf lessons with Tom which he now attends weekly at the range.
Steven continues: “Louie has always had a confident nature but this has grown through Tom’s encouragement. He knows the difference between hitting a great shot and a shot that could have been better. He even pretends to be Tom and often teaches us how to play using the skills he has learnt during his lessons.
“Trafford Golf Centre is an incredible facility with everything that you could ever want to learn and develop in every aspect of golf. Tom Fearon has been incredible from the moment we met, ensuring Louie’s lessons are always fun and engaging which allows him to learn, understand and develop – hopefully in to the next Tiger Woods!”
Pete Styles, director of golf, at Trafford Golf Centre and Dino Falls, said: “Dino Falls Adventure Golf is a fantastic and fun way for parents to encourage their children to get out of the house and gain an interest in a new sport. Our junior Academy lessons offer a structured learning programme which encourages and motivates juniors through quality coaching activities and games to make learning this awesome sport great fun.
“We are thrilled Louie is enjoying his lessons at the Academy and look forward to seeing his progress in the coming months and years.”
In 2018, the TraffordCity-based driving range revolutionised its offering by installing the most advanced ball tracking technology, Toptracer to 16 bays following a £90,000 investment. Since then, a further £30,000 has been invested in a new short game practice area, featuring the best Huxley synthetic turf to give superb realistic results, offering golfers the very best in short game practice.
Steven concludes: “We would actively encourage any parent who wants their child to take up golf, no matter their age. Not only does golf keep children active but it also helps with communication skills, hand/eye coordination as well as fine and gross motor skills. Golf is also a fantastic way to have fun and this is something that we always ensure Louie has in and out of his lessons.”
Trafford Golf Centre, which hit 14 million balls in 2018, and Dino Falls Adventure Golf is located next to the M60 and offers a ‘We proudly serve Starbucks Café and Bar’, 57 bay golf range, nine PGA professionals teaching from the Academy and the largest American Golf retail store in the north. Junior Academy lessons start from just £40 for 5 sessions (group lessons) and £90 for private lessons (5 x 30-minute private golf lessons).
